If you’re hitting the gym this January, make sure you include strength training in your workouts. For example, you may want to start using free weights, resistance bands, or doing body weight exercises such as squats, push-ups, sit-ups, and other core workouts.

“As part of a well-balanced personal training programme, effective strength training can increase muscle mass,” says Damo. “Not only does this make you stronger, it also burns more calories at rest than fat mass. If you’re looking to lose weight, you can’t go wrong with adding some strength training into your routine.”
